Deciding to get a puppy is a big and serious decision that should not be made hastily.
There is a slogan promoted by animal charities: A dog is for life, not just for Christmas. Of course, most sensible people wouldn’t consider getting a dog as a Christmas gift but the idea behind the slogan can apply to any time of the year.
This poem by Major Henry Livingston Jr. (1748-1828), previously believed to be by Clement Clarke Moore, must be one of the best known poems about Christmas although most people refer to it by its first line.
T’was the night before Christmas,
when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, –not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
